Financing

Living with disability often demands additional investments in order to achieve independence. Acquiring assistive technologies, removing architectural barriers, and making necessary modifications in homes and workplaces can place an additional financial burden on families or businesses.

To meet the needs of the aging population and people with disabilities living in the community, there are a number of federal and state grant and loan programs targeted to enabling independent living.

Title 7, Part B Grant Program

Limited financial assistance is available through these funds from the US Department of Education, and Rehabilitation Services Administration.

Funds are available to purchase services and adaptive equipment such as hand controls or lifts for vehicles, ramps, roll-in showers, hearing aids, TTYs, or flashing alarms or signals. For more information click here.

mPower Loans

Through this state bond funded program, individuals and businesses can obtain low interest loans of up to $100,000 to enable the acquisition of assistive technology or to improve access at home or work. For more information click here.

This program is jointly administered by Alpha One and the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME).
